Further Appeal Rights

The SSAT operates as the first tier of external review in the social security appeals system. Applicants who are not satisfied with an SSAT decision regarding their Centrelink appeal have the right to take the matter further by lodging an appeal for: Appeals to the AAT must be lodged within 28 days of the SSAT decision, which is sent to the applicant's last known postal address.

Centrelink also has further appeal rights. This means that if an applicant's appeal to the SSAT is successful, Centrelink also has 28 days in which to decide whether or not to appeal the decision to the AAT.

The AAT has a national telephone number (1300 366 700). There are offices in each capital city, except Darwin.
