How to apply to the SSAT

Applications for review of Centrelink decisions must be made in writing to the SSAT (either by post, email or facsimile) or in person at any SSAT office.

Applications made by telephone or made orally cannot be accepted. SSAT employer applications cannot be lodged at Centrelink offices.

The law contains certain formalities about the applications.

The application MUST be in approved form which is available on this page or it can be forwarded on request. It is a requirement of the law that in the application form, you must specify the condition or conditions for making an employer determination that you believe is or are not satisfied.

The application MUST be accompanied by a statutory declaration verifying the application.

Each application for review received by the SSAT is assigned to an individual Case Manager who will handle the administrative arrangements for the review.

It is helpful, although not essential, if you can provide the SSAT with your Centrelink reference number and the date of the Centrelink decision you are applying for review of. This information will be on the Authorised Review Officer's written decision on your case.

When to lodge an application for review

Applications for review of Centrelink decisions by an employer MUST be lodged with the SSAT within 14 days after the day on which the ARO review was made. There is no ability for the SSAT to extend the time for lodging an application after the 14 day period has expired.

International applicants

Overseas applicants have two options to lodge an application for review:

Telephone: Reverse charges +61 3 62 112800 - the toll free 1800 number does not work for international calls.

Email: Hobart@ssat.gov.au

It is helpful and efficient if international applicants can supply the SSAT with an email address for communication.

Withdrawing an application for review

If you decide that you no longer wish to proceed with your application for review you simply need to contact your SSAT Case Manager and advise him or her of your decision. You can also withdraw your application by notifying the SSAT in writing. The SSAT will then take no further action in relation to your application. If you do decide to apply again, the application for review must be lodged within 14 days after the day on which the ARO review was made.
